The owl recognized the man who had saved her and hugged him!

Gigi is a big owl. The bird was on the verge of death when it entered the Wild at Heart Rescue organization in Mississippi. The poor thing suffered a massive head injury: apparently, she was hit by a car.

“This bird was one of the hardest we have ever nursed,” says Missy Dubuisson, founder of the rescue center. “The fact that she is alive at all is beyond understanding.”

Nevertheless, after prolonged treatment, Gigi became much better. It probably would have been impossible if it were not for the care of Douglas “Doug” Podzheki, better known as the “bird caster.

“For all the years of working with hunting birds, I have never seen anyone have such a connection with these magnificent creatures,” says the founder. Gigi completely trusted Douglas. And even after his long absence (the man went to another state to his family), she recognized him, laid her head on her shoulder and hugged her.

The owl was so grateful to her savior that she could not stop hugging him when he returned from the trip.

"This bird was one of the hardest among the ones we ever nursed."

Podzheki helped the owl recover from a severe traumatic brain injury.

"In all the years of working with hunting birds, I have never seen anyone have such a connection with these magnificent creatures."

"They know him very well and trust him."
