What happened to this road ?!

In three days, the road in California turned from a standard dusty track into something inexplicable.

Vasquez Canyon Road in Santa Clarita had to be closed after it bent and became literally “wavy” for only three days. State authorities have warned that the area is unsafe. Los Angeles media reported that the highway turned into a hilly surface on a 60-meter stretch, and in some places, lifts reach 4.5 meters in height.

"The cracks are active and continue to expand," said Stephen Frasher, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Department of Public Works.

Experts say there is no obvious explanation for what happened.

Professor Jeremy Boyce, who led a group of his geological students from the University of California at the scene, was confused about what had happened.

"There were no showers, and there was no strong earthquake that could lead to this," he says.

“When we talk about geology, we think about processes that take place over millions and billions of years. So the opportunity to show students something that happened in just a few hours helps to convey to them the idea that geology may not be so extended over time, anything can happen just instantly. "

Professor Vincent Devlahovich of Canyons College suggests that this phenomenon was caused by the saturation of the surrounding rocks with rainwater. And although this seems to be the most plausible explanation, no exact and confirmed answer has yet appeared.
