Almost like yellow taxis in New York: 11 photos of the Manila jeepney, whose age is drawing to a close

Jeepney is an integral part of Philippine cities. After World War II, the Americans left a huge amount of military equipment on the islands, and they turned it into urban transport. Jeepneys travel around Manila and enjoy the success of the local population. But the peculiarity of this public transport is that it was turned into a real work of art: technology has become a canvas for local artists. Here are portraits, and paintings on religious themes, and drawings of heroes from science fiction films - in general, for which there was enough imagination. However, the age of jeepney is coming to an end: by 2020, all public transport decided to replace. All equipment, whose age exceeds 15 years, will be scrapped, and in its place will be brand new electric cars or cars with less polluting engines.
