Brave Iranians fight the regime, ignoring the laws of hijab in stunning photos

Dutch photographer Marinka Masseus traveled to Iran to create the My Hidden Freedom photo project, a movement that allows Iranian women to fight for more freedom and empowerment.

Many Iranian women hate forced hijab, in it they see a symbol of oppression, imposed on them not by their own choice or personal convictions, but by the hands of a repressive government. Today, for many Iranians, hijab is an inequality and discrimination that women only face because of their gender.

Every day, the inhabitants of this country (especially women) courageously challenge the regime with minor violations of the strictest rules: putting on the hijab too low, choosing its too bright shade, very tight pants or too short mantle. All these seemingly insignificant, but constant actions are real acts of courage and courage, which slowly but surely lead to change. Of course, the regime often reacts very painfully to this, women continue to be arrested and persecuted, and recently a law was passed banning Iranians from riding bicycles.

“To be safe and to be creative, we covered the windows of my apartment in Tehran with foil so that the flash was not visible from the outside. Women threw their brightly colored shawls into the air, and while they hesitantly returned to their hands, I photographed this act disobedience "- says Masseus.
