What they were: the usual technical devices for us at the dawn of their creation

Engineering thought does not stand still, and the world is replenished annually with new models of electronics and household appliances. A mobile phone, a laptop, a refrigerator, a dishwasher - they all went a long evolutionary path from bulky designs to elegant and high-tech models of the 21st century. Some of them have changed so much that today it is difficult to recognize in them household appliances that have firmly entered our lives. We decided to show you what were now popular devices and appliances at the time of its creation.

A vacuum cleaner

The first patent for a vacuum cleaner was obtained in the United States in 1860, followed by a number of patents for inventions that are bulky and inconvenient to use. And the first electric vacuum cleaner, which was quite large, was invented by the British Hubert Cecil Booth in 1901.

And this is another model of a vacuum cleaner that was popular at the beginning of the 20th century and was produced by Siemens.

Dishwasher

This device, also designed to make life easier for women, was created in 1887 by the American Josephine Cochrane. The world's first dishwasher was introduced to the world at the World Exhibition in 1893.

Hair dryer

This is one of the first hair dryers to be developed in Germany. It was not very compact, it was used only in hairdressing salons and was popular in the 20s of the last century.

Fridge

The first models of devices capable of maintaining a low temperature appeared in the middle of the XIX century. Well, the first refrigerator intended for domestic use was designed by the Danish Christian Steen Stroop in 1926. He had a fairly recognizable appearance and, of course, was white.

Microwave

The world's first microwave oven, most likely, would not be popular with modern hostesses, since its dimensions were comparable to those of modern refrigerators. A patent for the invention of the microwave oven was obtained in 1946. It was called Radarange, and was used only in army canteens for quick defrosting of products.

Mobile phone

The first mobile phone was invented in the USSR by engineer Leonid Kupriyanovich in 1957. The weight of the device under the name LK-1 was 3 kilograms, complete with it there was a base station, which was connected to the city telephone network.

Laptop

The world's first laptop, was created in 1982 by special order of NASA. The Grid Compass laptop was created on the basis of the Intel processor, had 340 KB of RAM and a fluorescent screen.
