In Canada, the photographer found a mysterious forest full of shoes

Patty Maher is a photographer from Ontario, Canada. She specializes in beautiful, surreal photographs, but one of the last pictures that she shared with the world cannot be called fabulous at all. However, they are incredibly mysterious.

The girl says that not so long ago, driving along one of the Ontario country roads, she came across an unusual place in the forest, where there were a huge amount of shoes. Of course, she could not help taking a picture of him. There were hundreds of pairs of shoes — nailed to trees, hanging on branches, or simply spread out on the ground under the trees.

Maher thought that perhaps this place was a kind of memorial to those who died in a car accident, but as it turned out later, this forest is a complete secret. No one knows who left these shoes there and why.

For the first time, people began to discover shoes here in the spring of 1972. According to police, there were no accidents, so the photographer’s initial guesses are unlikely. At the same time, there are many theories and opinions about what this section of the forest represents. Some people think that this is an art installation. Others say it could be part of the movement Walking free, popular in the 70s. However, this could well be a memorial or a joke.

Patty Maher says that a walk around this place gave her a strange sense of reverence. It seemed to her that she was getting to know the owners of these shoes. Looking at her, you begin to ask yourself questions: what were their lives like, were they still alive when their shoes got here, and for what reasons did they leave these shoes? Why is one shoe nailed, the other hanging on the branches, and something just lying on the ground?
