18 amazing 100 year old photos about everyday life in Japan

These rare ancient photographs of Japan appeared in 1908 thanks to the trained artistic eye of Arnold Gent. An American scientist, a native of Germany, honed his photographic skills, spending all his free time on the streets with a camera in his hands and a great desire to capture unforgettable moments. This intriguing series of photographs was created during a six-month visit to Japan.

Ghent had a wonderful sense of "visually interesting compositions with a restless background." Thanks to this photographer, he managed to create an atmosphere of bustling everyday life. In addition, the value of the pictures lies in many cultural scenarios: young women in traditional clothes, local residents relax on the beach, children roam the streets. Arnold Ghent was definitely able to catch the special flavor of Japan 100 years ago.
