The artist created a full-sized Greek Parthenon from 100,000 banned books

The 74-year-old Argentine artist Marta Minukhin created a monumental copy of the Greek Parthenon from 100 thousand copies of banned books. According to the artist, her creation symbolizes resistance to political repression.

The Parthenon from books, located in Kassel (Germany), is part of the Documenta 14 arts festival. With the help of students from a local university, the Argentinean found more than 170 titles of books banned in different countries around the world. And then she built a full-size copy of the iconic temple from these books, plastic sheets and steel.

In addition, it is worth noting that the work of Minukhin rises in a very symbolic place, where in 1933 the Nazis burned about 2,000 books as part of an extensive censorship campaign.
