This is not a photoshop or a picture from a fairy tale, but a real cave in New Zealand!

All this indescribable beauty was discovered and captured by the American photographer Joseph Michael.

This mosquito species lives in colonies and is found only in Australia and New Zealand.

Arachnocampa means spider larva. They got their name because they have to weave thin silk threads to get food.

Such caves are an ideal habitat for these creatures.

The light of these mosquitoes attracts other insects to their network, which serve as their food.

The radiance of Arachnocampa luminosa cannot be seen if light enters the cave where they live.

At night, the magical flicker of fireflies is most intense and, according to eyewitnesses, is very similar to the starry sky.

The life of these creatures is very short, since their main goal is to continue the genus. Shortly afterwards, Arachnocampa luminosa die.
