The author of the term "black tourism" is Professor John Lennon of the University of Glasgow, which explains the desire of people to visit places where bloody battles once fought, people died, natural disasters and catastrophes occurred, because a person’s ability to do evil and the very concept of death always admired. It was this feeling that made people watch the death penalty and fierce battles. And that is why when doctors, soldiers and rescuers leave the destroyed places, tourists come there - blood-spattered and disfigured territory becomes a popular tourist destination.

The theory of Professor Lennon and his work inspired photo correspondent Ambroise Thezenas to create a project that the author called “Black Tourism”. According to the photographer, tourists really like to take pictures against the background of those places where hundreds of people died. The goal of his project is not just visiting such places and photographing people who come there. Tesenas tried in the most graphic way to reveal the true meaning of this type of tourism, which has recently gained increasing popularity.

Destroyed in 2009 by an earthquake school in Xuankou (China). Tourists take pictures at the place of death of 300 people.

Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, former Nazi concentration camp (Poland). In 2011, almost 1.5 million people visited this place.
