2019 World Surfing Championship in stunning pics by Brian Bilmann

What kinds of sports do not exist in our time, but perhaps the most beloved and spectacular of them are water. They require good athletic training and excellent swimming skills. One of the most popular water sports destinations is surfing. He was known since ancient times. Indigenous people on the Pacific coast already in the 4th century AD rode on wooden boards made by themselves. The founders of surfing are Hawaiians. Of course, not all countries have conditions suitable for this sport, but some create them artificially.

Where there are no problems with the waves, since nature itself has taken care of the most favorable conditions for surfing, residents can even afford to organize professional competitions.

So, for example, Tahiti annually hosts the World Surfing Championship.

So this year in the small village of Teahupoo the most ardent fans and masters of this sport gathered, and photographer Brian Bilmann captured everything that was happening on camera.

In general, in the reef area, waves often reach 3 meters in height, and sometimes even become huge and reach 7 meters.

Staying on such waves is considered a very difficult task.

Lovers of conquering water peaks come here from all over the world to feel the adrenaline and test themselves.

Sometimes athletes have only a few seconds to defeat the elements and surface.

Daily training, the ability to hold your breath for a long time, and quick orientation under water have been developed by athletes for a long time, but it's worth it.

Man has been trying to tame the elements for many centuries, and we see that surfers do it best.

The pictures of Brian Bilmann are simply amazing, and the moments captured by him convey all the entertainment, grace and complexity of this sport.
