Magic wand: who invented it and how to make it correctly

Goddess Circe

By all accounts, the first written mention of wands comes from the Greek writer Homer and appears in his works The Iliad and The Odyssey. In The Iliad, he wrote that the wand, which he also called the wand, was the instrument with which the god Hermes put people to sleep, and then woke them up again. Thus, in a dream, he transmitted the messages of the gods to people. In Odyssey, the goddess Athena used her magic wand to turn Odysseus into an old man, and then made him young again. Another heroine of the same work, the goddess Circe uses it in order to turn the people of Odysseus into pigs.

Medieval spell book

There are also references to magic wands in 13th-century Latin labor called the Grimoire of Honorius.

This book mentions two kinds of magic wands: a wand and a staff. A small stick is made from hazel wood or other nut crops. It should be made from a fresh twig, which meant freshness and purity. In addition, it must be cut from one blow. Otherwise, all magical power is lost.

Eliphas Levy

The French occultist Eliphas Levy wrote about several tools of magic in his book Occult Philosophy in 1862. Along with the magic wand, they include magic swords, magic cups, hexagrams and pentagrams. He also cited a passage in the book, which he claimed was a translation of a Hebrew treatise. He spoke of the incredible magical ability of lotus wands. Later, scientists found out that this treatise turned out to be a fake.

Franz Bardon

The Czech writer and occultist Franz Bardon, who survived in the fascist concentration camp, wrote in the 1950s a three-book textbook on ritual magic that influenced modern occultists and was considered the best among all self-instruction books. In his book, Bardon wrote that the wand was and will be the most important element in ritual magic.

Gandalf White witch

The magic wand is the scariest tool in the White Witch’s arsenal in the series of books by K. S. Lewis Chronicles of Narnia. It was with this magical item that the White Witch turned people into stone. An unenviable fate.

Harry Potter

Magic wands have become an integral part of books and films about Harry Potter. The novels explain that they help heroes cast spells and make them stronger. Magic wands are so important that characters find themselves in a quandary if they lose them.
