Solution found: plant 1 trillion trees and stop global warming

Since attempts to influence industrialized countries to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere turned out to be largely ineffective, ecologists decided to approach this problem from a different perspective. Recently, forest open spaces began to be considered not only as a source of oxygen to the atmosphere, but also as the most powerful means of combating surpluses of anthropogenic СО2. Of course, in order to move the scales in the right direction and prevent further accumulation of greenhouse gas, there must be a lot of trees. Swiss scientists at a recent conference announced the figure of 4 trillion trees.

According to available data, about 3 trillion trees grow on our planet. At the same time, industrial emissions of carbon dioxide are about 10 gigatons per year. According to Swiss environmentalists, planting about 1-1.2 trillion trees can solve the problem of gas utilization. It is noted that additional forests can be placed on abandoned and unused lands, therefore, the area of agricultural land will not have to be reduced. Of course, all these territories are not very suitable for most types of trees, therefore, in order to plant arid zones or industrial badlands, scientists will have to more carefully select suitable varieties of tree species.

Australia was the first to respond to the call of environmentalists. The authorities of this country have already announced their intention to plant 1 billion trees in the country under the state program for 30 years. But this is only 1/1000 part of the required amount, and given the fact that Australia has vast expanses of underutilized land, it could accommodate more on its territory.

But all the noble impulses rest on financing, so developed countries that have enough material means and a scientific and technical basis for implementing such grandiose projects should first of all respond to this initiative. Well, of course, do not forget about those 3 trillion trees that are already available at the moment. It is on their protection and rational use that it is worth focusing the efforts of ecologists, since newly planted trees will not soon reach the productivity that adult specimens have, which means that a significant impact on the content of CO2 in the atmosphere of the planet, they will be able to render only after decades.
