Walk on the Sky Bridge on Langkawi Island

The island of Langkawi is small and cannot boast of a lot of entertainment and attractions, such as, for example, neighboring Thai Phuket. But there are mountains, and in the mountains there is a beautiful suspension bridge Sky Bridge, which is considered almost the main attraction of the island and the main tourist attraction. And if so, then you need to go and see with your own eyes, especially since I love mountains!

The sky bridge is located high on the mountain, and in order to get there, you first need to come to the small "East Village", which is called Oriental Village. I don’t know what was primary: either the village was built for the bridge, or the bridge for the village, but now they merged together and are inconceivable without each other.

The eastern village is a typical theme park, built specifically for tourists, and its main attraction and zest is just Sky Bridge - a suspension bridge on a mountain. Although, as it turned out, in the "village" itself there is something to do before (or after) how to climb the mountain.

What is there: several 3-4-5-6D cinemas with different repertoire, a very cool 3D museum, a mini zoo, a playground, a lake with fish, as well as numerous souvenir shops (and even one duty free), cafes, restaurants and a small hotel.

But we are interested in the Sky Bridge, right? And to climb the bridge, you need to use the cable car, which will raise us to a height above 600 meters, where the bridge itself is located.

The cable car is more than 4 kilometers long, so we stock up on popcorn, sit in a booth and slowly climb, enjoying the surrounding scenery.

By the way, cabins here come in different types and classes, like a plane ticket. Economy class - these are ordinary booths that are designed for 4-6 people, and they are occupied in the order of a live queue. An economy class ticket costs 55 ringgit, and for passing without a queue you need to pay another 50. But it is better to buy a business class - cabins with a transparent bottom. A ticket to such a cabin costs 105 ringgit, and passage to it in a separate line, which is several times less than the economy. Well, for the richest there are first-class VIP booths worth 500 Malay ringgit, in which there will be no one except you.

Rise for a long time, but you can enjoy the local landscapes. Over there, you can see the Seven Wells waterfall, which can be reached along the trail from the Eastern Village. We planned to reach him, but hung on the bridge for too long and simply did not have time.

We continue to rise and enjoy the views, the sea, the bay, yachts ...

And, of course, the village itself, which is here in full view ...

So we climbed the bridge? No, no matter how! We just went upstairs, and the bridge still needs to be reached. Climbing the stairs is quite steep and takes 15-20 minutes through the jungle teeming with local monkeys, who strive to steal something from you. But during the last reconstruction, the SkyCab funicular was built here, on which, for an additional fee, you can get to the bridge itself, bypassing the hiking trail. My wife and I are young guys and went on foot, and at the same time we talked with local monkeys. And finally, we came to the bridge ...

The bridge is located at an altitude of 660 m above sea level, and the views from it open up excellent! Actually, for this he was built. And as a bridge, it is absolutely useless. As it turned out, this is just a transition from one mountain to another, and then a dead end with a canopy. But this is quite enough to make this place attractive for tourists.

By design, Sky Bridge is a metal suspension bridge that rests on one huge support. By the way, in order to lift its elements and establish this very support, Russian cargo helicopters Ka-32 were used. What would they do without us.

The bridge is 125 meters long and almost 2 wide, with only 200 people. Perhaps this is why there are few tourists and the usual Chinese flea market.

In some places, the floor of the bridge is transparent, which adds the thrill of walking on it. Still, the nearest land is more than 60 meters, so people who are afraid of heights are not recommended to look down while walking through these "windows". Although, I think, people with such fear will not climb here themselves for anything. And also, when you walk along the bridge and blow a breeze (and it almost always blows here at a height), you feel how this whole structure swings under your feet on this very curve and a lonely metal support (which also sways slightly). And do you think it's scary to walk on a swinging bridge? And how!

A little higher, at an altitude close to 700 meters, there is a large observation deck, which offers a beautiful view not only of the green tropical island, but also of the Heavenly Bridge itself. Here, as a rule, most instafotok and selfies are done.

There is also a small Sky Cafe here, in which I highly recommend trying their signature Sky Burger. Either my wife and I were very hungry, or he was so tasty, I don’t know, but we ate this burger with great pleasure!

The bridge is closed at 19.00, just after sunset, which looks glamorous from here! So I advise you to climb the bridge in the afternoon, about an hour before sunset, and enjoy the sunset at an altitude, like us. If you are lucky with the weather, then impressions and super-nice pictures are guaranteed to you.

All over the world they love to hang love locks on bridges, and the Sky Bridge is no exception. Here, for these locks, even a special place is reserved so as not to hang anywhere. And if you didn’t take the cupid’s lock with you, it doesn’t matter, you can buy it right here in a nearby store.

After admiring the sunset, we went down to the East village, which became even more beautiful and, most importantly, calmer in the evening. All the rides and shops have already closed, the Chinese have left - silence and beauty!

Unlike shops, restaurants in the village are open until late, so you can have dinner here if you wish. There is a large and multinational food court, as well as a couple of small cafes with service, and the prices are very pleasing to the pocket.

Summing up, I will say that the status of the main and most interesting sights of Langkawi Island has been confirmed by the Sky Bridge. We liked it here, and it was even more interesting than we expected. They still know how to make candy out of nothing now.
