Maspalomas Dunes - Unusual moving mountains of sand in the Canary Islands

Maspalomas dunes are located next to the city of the same name on the island of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands) and cover an area of 4 square kilometers. This amazing place can easily seem alive to you, since sand hills move from time to time under the influence of the wind and their topography is constantly changing. Dunes can move at a speed of 2 to 5 meters in a direction from east to west.

Maspalomas is both an amazing natural monument and a beautiful sandy beach. From the coastline, sand blows inland, where it accumulates around shrubs, forming dunes. As soon as there is too much sand, much more than the bush itself, it begins to move further, thereby forming a bewitching wavy pattern on the field. Perhaps, thanks to the winds blowing from the ocean, the local landscape is never the same.
