Judgment Day - the day cars and public transport disappear in Israel

Yom Kippur is the most important day among the Jews, as it is the so-called Judgment Day, the day of repentance and atonement for sins. During it, in Israel, most motorists leave their vehicles, public transport also stops walking, enterprises, shops, cafes are closed, and even airplanes and trains stop their work. On this holy day, Israel reminds the country after the apocalypse: there is no music playing on the radio, television stopped broadcasting, car traffic stopped, and among all the silence that formed, people were leisurely strolling right along the road or riding a bicycle.

Since during the celebration of Yom Kippur Day, vehicles and businesses stop throwing pollutants into the air, it becomes noticeably cleaner and visibility improves. Across the country, air pollution is down 90 percent.

If you suddenly become interested in visiting Israel on the Day of Atonement, be aware that next year it falls on September 19th. Like other Jewish holidays, it begins the day before sunset and lasts from dusk to dusk. However, one should be prepared for the fact that on this day everything will be closed, including shops, and tourists will not be able to receive any services. As for the inhabitants themselves, during Yom Kippur they observe the strictest fasting and every ban on any physical pleasures.
