Photographer makes breathtaking bird portraits to save endangered species

National Geographic photographer, speaker, book author, and conservationist Joel Sartore is the founder of Photo Ark, an inspirational project aimed at raising awareness of endangered animals. More than 10 years ago, Sartore felt an urgent need to convey to mankind the terrifying fact that by the end of the next century we could lose half of all animal species on Earth. He set off to travel the world, creating a series of animal portraits to show "the beauty of biodiversity in all its forms." Having collected 7,885 species of living creatures in his photo archive, Sartore began to publish the same book about birds.
